Entities introduces a new body of work that explores abstraction as a means of nonlinguistic communication. The paintings in this exhibition offer a contemplative look at the interplay between control and unpredictability. Reflecting on geological processes and the structure of pattern in nature, Bones creates works that balance materiality with conceptual rigor.
Bones’ technique involves a departure from traditional brushwork, using pigments and custom emulsions which are applied to linen with unconventional tools. This process, marked by the artist’s direct manipulation of the canvas, results in dynamic interactions between intention and the unexpected. The artworks emerge through a methodical approach and document the process of their own creation.
The term “entity” is employed here to evoke a sense of presence and influence, drawing from its use in New Age contexts to describe non-physical or energetic beings. In this exhibition, the paintings are approached as if they possess their own consciousness, inviting viewers to engage with them as dynamic forces. This perspective encourages an exploration of the relationship between process and the pictorial, as well as the natural and synthetic, allowing the artworks to be perceived as intangible archetypes or evolving forms.
